Accessibility

Our ongoing commitment to making this site usable by everyone, and how to tell us when we fall short.

Last updated August 2026

We want anyone to be able to read our reporting and use our interactive features, regardless of how they browse the web. That shapes how we build the site, not just how we describe it after the fact.

What we build in

  • Every interactive element — links, buttons, form fields, the daily crossword’s grid — is operable with a keyboard alone, not just a mouse or touchscreen.
  • Images carry meaningful alt text describing what’s in them; purely decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them rather than reading out noise.
  • Every form field has a real, associated label, so it’s announced correctly regardless of assistive technology.
  • Pages use semantic HTML — headings, landmarks, lists — so the structure of a page is available to screen readers, not just implied visually.
  • Focus states are visible, so keyboard users can always see where they are on the page.

Where we’re still improving

This is ongoing work, not a finished checklist. If something on the site is hard to use with a screen reader, keyboard, or other assistive technology, we want to know — that’s the fastest way for us to find and fix it.

Reporting an issue

Email [email protected] with the page you were on and what happened. A screenshot or a description of the assistive technology you were using helps us reproduce it faster.
